I recently began participating in an 8 week course called “Taming Your Gremlin.” It’s taught by Rick Carson, the author of the best-selling book “Taming Your Gremlin.” There are only 15 of us in the course, so we get TONS of one-on-one with Rick and intensive learning around the Gremlin Taming Method.
And here’s why I decided to blog about my experience with gremlin taming:
I’ve never been better educated at understanding how to recognize and deal with my worst villains: my own inner saboteurs. I’ve never felt more equipped to handle those inner demon voices that hold me back, make me feel “less than,” and utter sweet nasties in my ear. Here’s more about what makes gremlin taming so fabulous, in my estimation:
-it works for ALL humans
So what the heck is a Gremlin? (I like to refer to them as Gremlinas, the feminine version of the same).
Master Gremlin Tamer Rick Carson says it best:
There is indeed a Gremlin in your head and he’s out to make you miserable. Left to do his thing, he’ll zap your health, foul up your relationships, ruin your disposition, dampen your creativity, hamper your productivity, drive you into low-down funks and wind you up into fits of anxiety.
We’ve all got these evil little creatures lurking inside of our minds. It’s part of the human condition. These insidious beings find it fun and exciting to sit in the world of the mind and whisper sweet nasties to us (e.g., you can’t, you shouldn’t, you ought to, and you would of if…). The trick is to learn how to shut those voices down. Rick goes on to state:
Now, here’s the good news. With a little personal coaching, your gremlin is no match for “The Natural You.” That’s where we come in.
What’s the natural you? According to Rick Carson, the natural you is the person that was pushed out on to this earth at birth. The natural you is the one who you are at your CORE, the blissful, powerful, creative, authentic person that resides deep, deep inside of you. The natural you is the one that is wrapped up inside of all of those beliefs and opinions that you hold about yourself as a result of your life experiences and the way you were brought up. The natural you is PERFECT. The natural you is HAPPY. The natural you is FREE!
So, if the NATURAL “me” is so perfect, happy, and free, why do I continue to allow her to be squashed, squelched, hampered, and trodden upon by my nasty little gremlinas? Because I’m human, simple as that. But I am learning how to VERY effectively quiet those ugly voices so that I CAN be free to pursue that which is the real, true natural me. It’s an amazing feeling. I’ve never had such a sense of calmness and peace and joy before. WOW. That’s all I can say. WOW.
Is it really this easy? Yes and no. Yes, it is easy: the technique is simple and it works beautifully. No, it is not easy: it takes effort, patience, and persistence. It’s empowering to tame your gremlinas, but you have to want it in order for it to work.
Are you ready to learn how to recognize and tame those nasty voices?
